Hey, all! Just found a link to this forum and thought it would be a good one to join. Some of you may have seen me before on other Phan forums. If you haven't (or if the experience has been mysteriously erased from your memory), then... Hi! I'm James, and I've been a Phantom Phan since the spring of 2004. I was first introduced to the story when my band teacher played the original London recording in class to prepare us for a trip to NYC where we'd see the show on Broadway. I unfortunately couldn't afford to go, but something about the story and music compelled me to find out more. I found Gaston Leroux's original novel in my school library, and went on to track down the various film adaptations, which eventually led me to the wonderful world of Phan Forums.
About LND... I admit I'm really not a fan of the idea of an official sequel to the story, and everything I've heard/seen of LND reinforces that view for me. That said, I have nothing against those who like the sequel for their own reasons. I think there's lots of common ground between fans and non-fans of LND -- after all, we all love the original story of a disfigured genius and his obsession with a beautiful, young soprano.
I do think constructive debate about the pros and cons of LND can be a good thing, as long as we don't resort to name-calling, senseless bashing, or arguments about which side of the debate has been better-behaved. Mud has been slung from both sides, and like everyone else here, I'd like that to stop. So yes, I'm looking forward to constructive posting about LND and POTO here, free of any mud-slinging.
