I posted in the Introduction Game thread, but I thought I would make a thread here to go a little more in depth (not that I'm a very deep person, mind you) about me. So here we go!
My name's Droney. Well, that's my screenname, actually. If you want to get all close and personal with me (which, I love, by the way) feel free to call me "Mookie". It's not my real name, just a life-long nickname that I've come to love. Other than that, I'm known on the Internet as Disconnected Drone, or Droney, or DD. Whatever suites your fancy!
I'm not a new-new Phan; I've been officially part of the Phandom for about 5 years now. My obsession (sadly) first started with the 2004 version of the movie starring Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. After seeing that, I fell in love with the story line and did a lot of research on different versions, books, movies, and the historical parts of the story. I've read countless published fan fictions and different versions of the story (the original Gaston Leroux book, Phantom of Manhattan, Susan Kay's Phantom, random fan fics, etc.), and have seen most of the movie versions, give or take a few.
Even though I've grown as a Phan and don't think incredibly highly of the 2004 version, I will always respect it and be tied to it because it was what brought me into the Phandom.
I was finally able to see the show on stage in 2010 on Broadway, with Hugh Panaro as the Phantom. He was amazing. I saw the show again just last week with John Owen Jones as the Phantom in London. Unfortunately, that show didn't live up to my expectations; but that's for another post entirely, probably not even on this forum.
As for how I stand on Love Never Dies; I'm an inbetweener. I have chosen not to take sides, because at the moment Phantom forums are filled with flame wars and other nasty insulting things over Love Never Dies, Love Should Die, Love Shouldn't Die, etc. Perhaps one day I will officially choose a side and stick to it. But for the moment, I am satisfied with both loving and hating the show, defending both Love Should Die and Love Shouldn't Die, and respecting people's opinions. There's things about Love Never Dies I like, and things I don't like.
My hope is that, by joining this forum and actively taking part in the discussion here, I will be able to help fix the breech that has come between Phantom fans, caused by the Flame War. It's my goal to help the mods and ultimately the admin of this site, along with its members, to unite the Phans once again so that we can continue todrool over Erik and/or Raoul together have healthy, fun discussions about the show/book/movie we all love.
Oh, and one more thing. I'm a huge Ramin Karimloo fan. Saw him in Love Never Dies last week. Just thought I would add that in there.
