There has been much discussion between the LND and LSD group as to whether a sequal to POTO should have even been made place your vote here. Feel free to add your reasoning.

Thanks for starting this topic! I for one when I first heard about the sequel was both a little excited and a little apprehensive. The thoughts that went through my mind when I first heard about it were something along the lines of "Hey a sequel! I hope it's well written because if it isn't I'm going to hate it and most sequels usually tend to end up being bad but who knows? This could be really interesting!" Long story short, after doing much research { feel free to contact me if you want to know what extensive research I did since no I have not been able to see the show in person instead of youtube quite yet }, I came to the conclusion that the plot pretty much stinks the whole way through. If the plot were different I could be one of Love Never Dies biggest Phans { prolly not the biggest but I would be a huge supporter } but it isn't so for now I will remain a member of the Love Should Die group and very anti sequel { not anti Phans of the sequel though mind you }. I guess in response to your question I can't say I really ever thought that the show needed a sequel but that doesn't mean I'm against there being a sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's particular version of Phantom of the Opera so as far as whether a sequel should have been made I guess I'm middle of the road on that one.

Like Erika, I wasn´t against the sequel when I heard about it. I didn´t - and still don´t - approve nastiness against those "heretic" phans who like the show. However, I read the plot. I listened the music. I feel plot trite, robbing dark romance from the character of Phantom, and making mockery of characters created by Leroux, and music was full of pretty little ditties, without majesty of original music. LND is not crappy show. It´s not torture porn! ;D It´s just... not very good.

I'm not against the idea of a sequel.
I'm against the idea of a bad one.
While Love Never Dies, I think we can all agree, has some bad points and plot holes, I wouldn't say it's the crappiest show that could have possibly been put on stage as a "sequel to Phantom of the Opera". It could have been a lot worse, but it could have been a lot better.
I voted "yes", because I think everyone has the right to express their creativity and their opinions.

Love the sequel. Magnificent music, entertaining story.....and the aussie versions has GREAT voices and an awesome scenography. As for the integrity of the characters etc...POTO is just another Beauty and the Beast version: if you want a deep story, look in other places. And I'll say that Meg and Raoul are more interesting in LND than in POTO. The greatness of POTO is the score and the scenography. POTO's score is better than LND, though, and that's why I still love the original much more than I love the sequel.

POTO is just another Beauty and the Beast? I really don't think so. For just one thing---don't believe I've ever heard of Beauty and the Beast fans being sufficiently divided about aspects of the show to set up a special message board to be a safe place to discuss it.
It's because Phantom of the Opera is so important to so many people that divisiveness and disagreements become so heated.
In answer to the question that is the topic of this thread, I wish that Love Never Dies had not been created. I could give several reasons, but I won't get into them now.

Well, these characters are not created by ALW, but Leroux. In LND Phantom is boring, so is everybody else, Christine is adulteress, Raoul is angry drunk... What an Earth was ALW thinking? Money? That this was good story? I don´t know, I voted no, but... yea, fans have right to enjoy about their show. There´s lot of worse stuff in the world of entertainment which I hope would never exist.

I would like to repeat that as far as creating a sequel to ALW's work is concerned I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with it if it has a crappy plot like I believe LND does. Lets just say that if I went and saw ALW's version of Phantom and then saw Love Never Dies { as in I never saw Lloyd Webber's Phantom before Love Never Dies was even preparing to go on stage } and never found out about any other versions of Phantom I would absolutely abhor Phantom. Thank goodness I saw the 2004 movie long before LND happened and have since then found out about other versions of Phantom or I would definitely not be a part of this Phandom.

I don't think this version of a sequel should have been made. I still don't think it's ready. It's only an early draft, in my opinion. I am going to freely admit that I was very curious about seeing more of the Phantom's story on stage as imagined by the man who created the musical that has had the biggest impact on me. But this version? Love Never Dies? I don't hate it, but it's not quite right.

I suppose I am okay with a sequel, but the plot for this was so badly written it makes me sort of sad and angry. Again, we are supposed to root for the Phantom who's one of the most egotistical and manipulative people you'll ever get to meet.
